Acne – Homeopathic approach and manifestation of disease

We have treated several cases with success during last three decades of our practice, teenage children are often worried. These are commonly known as Pimples/Keel/Muhanse . It is caused by excessive secretion of the ebaceous glands, blockage of pilo-sebacous duct and bacterial infection. patients often are tired of using several ointments and long course of antibiotics.

Homoeopathy in these cases helps in reducing the sensitiveness of sebaceous glands and reduce the recurrence. Patient should not expect magical cure as this disease has tendency of recurrence. The aim of the treatment is to reduce the recurrence, clear the complexion and scars. If these is any underline hormonal disturbance as in cases of PCOS special care is to be provided to such cases. The patients are required to avoid hair oils, and greasy make up on face strictly. Sometime acne is caused by pollution, fumes, chemicals etc. These should be avoided to prompt relief.

Homeopathic approach is to manage it properly and continuously over months so as to reduce the effect of acne and minimize the scarring and other complications. There are various myths regarding diet etc for acne but there is no justification for restricting any diet in acne as sebaceous glands are secretory and not excretory glands. Thus the level of lipids in the blood has no relation to the constituents of sebaceous glands.

It manifests itself in basically two forms.

Acne Vulgaris: It is a chronic inflammatory disorder of pilo-sebaceous follicles .It can appear at puberty and continues for variable periods. Superimposed bacterial infection and excessive secretion of sebaceous glands are the most important causes of pustular and painful lesions.

Acne Rosacea: It is seen in the form of Red areas on face, chin, cheeks etc, although it is more common in women but men are more likely to have a severe form with bright red, bulbous nose. It is very important to understand the psychology of the patient here as acne is a worrying cosmetic problem rather than serious disease.

Homeopathic medicines takes into account the individualistic symptoms and treats the patient holistically .
